Specimen Integrity and Preparing for Collection

 

Ensure use of appropriate tubes or containers

 

  • All tubes, containers and request forms must be properly labeled. Name and NRIC/FIN of patient must be legible on all tubes, containers and request forms.
  • All tubes and containers must be tightly and properly capped to prevent spillage and contamination.
  • Specimens from each patient must be placed and sealed in biohazard ziplock bags provided by ResteLab.
  • Please use a separate biohazard ziplock bag to put urine or stool specimens when possible.
  • For some tests or profiles, please take note of the "Requirements" indicated.

 

Overnight blood samples are to be properly packed and kept in the refrigerator. However, please note that blood sample for the follow tests cannot be kept overnight. These blood tests include FBC, ESR, Glucose

Specimen Rejection Policy

 

At ResteLab, specimens of unacceptable condition will be rejected and fresh specimens will be requested from the clinic. The following, not limited to, are some examples of unacceptable sample criteria:

 

  • Incorrect patient details such as Name, ID
  • Sample not labelled or labelled incorrectly
  • Poor specimen quality, for example: grossly haemolysed blood sample, clotted EDTA sample
  • Insufficient blood sample
  • Incorrect blood tube
  • Breakage of container
  • Spillage of sample
